Santa Cruz del Islote

Santa Cruz del Islote is the most densely populated island on earth. It’s part of the San Bernardo Archipelago, some 20km off the Atlantic coast of Colombia. On this island of the size of two football pitches live about 800 people and the main activities are fishing and tourism. The Islote is one of many places around the world endangered by the rise of the sea level, the locals have to take regular measures to protect themselves from high tides and have started a campaign to protect their island and rise awareness among the local communities on the importance of their natural environment.
