Nearly three years after first setting foot in Ecuador to start a photography project, I am proud to present the result of this work in collaboration with Swiss photographer Luca Piffaretti. With your support, this journey will soon become a photobook showcasing an extensive documentation of contemporary Ecuadorian architecture and an intimate travel account of our experience in a country we came to love.
Bordering Colombia and Perù, Ecuador features a rich diversity of landscapes, from the Andes and Amazon rainforest to the Pacific Coast and the Galápagos Islands. Its contemporary architecture reflects this geographical diversity, blending traditional materials and construction techniques with modern design solutions that respond to the country’s unique environments.
Despite economic and political challenges, Ecuadorian architects are pushing the boundaries of innovation and sustainability, crafting projects that serve communities across diverse social and economic realities.
This photobook, divided into chapters dedicated to Ecuador’s distinct geographical regions, examines how architecture in Ecuador responds to its natural landscapes, urban environments, and social contexts, revealing a dynamic interplay between design, environment, and culture.

As architectural photographers, we are deeply interested in how the built environment is represented. Too often, buildings are portrayed as isolated monuments, detached from the places and communities that give them meaning. In Ecuador, however, contemporary architecture is profoundly shaped by its urban, natural, and social surroundings.
With this book, we seek to broaden the conversation about the role of architecture within its context, beginning each exploration with a fundamental question: how does a building serve the people who use it, and how does it engage in dialogue with its environment?
We also believe architecture is a powerful lens through which to understand a country. These images offer an insight into Ecuador, a nation of extraordinary cultural and natural diversity, whose contribution to shaping a more sustainable future is too often overlooked.

The project production has been entirely self-funded. We invested time and resources into two research and photography trips in 2023 and 2024, driven by our belief in the importance of documenting Ecuador’s contemporary architecture.
The book quickly gained strong interest within the publishing world, and in 2025 we signed an agreement with the renowned Swiss publisher Park Books for its international distribution.
An initial phase of funding was successfully secured through a Kickstarter campaign, which enabled the production of the book. We are now seeking additional support to further enhance the publication’s production quality, expand the print run, and strengthen its international dissemination.
